My Expertise

Stress, Anxiety, & Depression
You know you are capable of a lot more than you are doing now but when you think about the future in general, or about one particular aspect of your life, you become anxious. You stop yourself from doing what you want to do. Instead you probably find displacement activities that make you feel good, while also blaming yourself for what is happening to you. You have an overall sense of powerlessness and can’t rely on yourself. You are in a vicious circle and can’t get out of it. You may know what you are supposed to do. You have read about it, maybe even sought help in the past, but somehow, it is still the same. You are stuck and frustrated. No matter how much you lecture yourself, try to push yourself through, cajole yourself, negotiate or postpone, your problem is still there.
You will gain perspective by listening to your inner feelings, getting in touch with them and navigating what they mean to you. I create a strong feeling of safety and stay with you so that you can face your fears, and deep unconscious issues, in a safe and courageous way. If need be, we can work together so you become more motivated to change. I will also help you take what you learn and use it in your life.

My Approach
We will explore what you want from working together, including how I understand your problem and possible solutions. We would clarify expectations, the outcome you want and your role in the process. Everyone is different and has different needs. How I help you and how we progress depends on what you want. For example, some people are fine with doing some homework, others don’t like homework at all. Motivation and energy to initiate and sustain the change is often an issue. We will have regular progress checks to see if you are satisfied with how the work is going, how the problem eases and how you relate to yourself and the problem.
If you decide you want only a very limited number of sessions, we can decide together what would be the most significant change we could make that would make a difference and focus on that.
Analysing a problem can help you understand how the problem works but doesn’t by itself solve the problem. In fact, it often leads to you getting stuck with no clear way out. Our work together will help you to move forward and move on in your life.
I create a space of trust, you can trust me that I care, as a friend would, that I am focussed on the task at hand. I have seen many therapists who seem to get lost in clients’ gossiping about themselves and they add to it. You can rest assured that when you have reached what you wanted, I would not continue seeing you for the sake of it. Half of the people I know who see therapists for an extended period of time do so because they feel good about being able to express themselves in that relationship. I would not do that. I could help you to do that with others, but I won’t do that.
I am very aware that you are paying for your session. I want you to have value for money.
Our session will have a purpose. It will create the environment for the change to occur. Like I would not do gym by myself at home, but would do it in a class, a gym, a specific environment bounded by space and time. There is a focus.
Frequently Asked Questions
Fees?
I charge £80 per session. A session is usually 50 minutes but if we are close to resolving an issue, or are in the middle of something crucial, it may take longer. In terms of fees, this would cout as one session.
How do you know I am right for you?
Most of my clients come through recommendations from other clients. We can have an initial conversation that will help you determine whether I understand your problem and you feel safe that I can help you.
What to expect?
After an initial chat and you deciding to go ahead, we would agree what to work on, the nature and extent of the problem, how it works and how to address it. Subsequently, we would determine how often to see each other, usually weekly, but it could be more frequent at the early stage if there is a crisis, and more time in between sessions once you are unstuck, but want to chect in on your progress. Each session, we would look at your progress, including how you’re applying your new ways of being and doing.
What is CBH?
Cognitive Behaviour Hypnotherapy: It is the integration of Hypnosis, CBT and mindfulness. It is a mind-body psychotherapy approach. It helps you make deeper and more long-lasting change. The hypnosis aspect is to help you to immerse into an experience, but also to consider things in a more detached way, or rehearse a behaviour in a situation. The cognitive aspect addresses unhelpful thinking patterns, and the behavioural aspect addresses the habits and automatic behaviours. Altogether they deal with the feelings, thoughts and behaviours that maintain problems.
Do I have to be hypnotised?
Not automatically. Many clients resolve their issue without the use of hypnosis. In any case, you would remain conscious and in control of what is happening. We would, of course, discuss any concerns or questions you may have about how we would proceed to ensure you’re comfortable with the approach.
